Aquaculture and Capitol

ALABEL, Sarangani (January 25, 2007) – The 26-hectare provincial capitol complex of Sarangani, with the massive Capitol building as centerpiece, lies next to the sprawling fish ponds that produce milkfish and tilapia. The aquaculture industry in Sarangani also engages in the operation of marine water fish cages producing and processing high value fishes like milkfish, pompano, sergeant fish, grouper, talakitok and seabass. Aquaculture products are the province's only direct foreign exchange generator, exporting producst such as fresh and processed milkfish, pompano, seabass, sergeant fish and a variety of other specie. Said products are exported to major Filipino communities in the US, Canada and Europe. In 2006, export sales was roughly US$6.94 million. (Photo by SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE/CAS)
