Gov. Migs survives roadside bombing in Sarangani

MALAPATAN, Sarangani (April 26, 2010) – Governor Migs Dominguez survived a bombing attack at noon Monday (April 26) on his way to meet Lakas-Kampi-CMD presidential bet Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro who arrived in General Santos City the same day.

Gov. Dominguez, former national president of Lakas-Kampi-CMD, was coming to General Santos City from Glan town where he investigated the ambush attempt on partymate Mayor Enrique “Yoyong” Yap.

Third-termer Yap is the vice mayoralty candidate of the governor’s party Sarangani Reconciliation and Reformation Organization(Sarro)/Lakas-Kampi-CMD in Glan.

Police said the roadside bombing happened around 11:40 a.m. when Dominguez’s convoy passed alongside Lun Masla Bridge in the town of Malapatan, a few kilometers away from the municipality of Glan.

“I'm OK...I was on my way home to meet up with Teodoro who is arriving in General Santos City. There was a recycled explosive in between my car and the car of my backup security,” Dominguez said.

“’Yong main charge ay hindi pumutok, ganun pa man isang explosion naincident, so nagpatawag tayo ng SOCO (Scene of the Crime Operations) galing sa ating crime laboratory plus our EOD (Explosive OrdnanceDisposal) team natin to conduct post blast investigation,” said Col.Restito Gatera, PNP provincial director. “Blessing in disguise na hindi pumutok ‘yong explosive devise.”

Police said no human casualty was reported. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team recovered one unit Yamaha Crypton motorcycle with plate number MJ9208 color red-black, one Motorola hand held radio as triggering device, and one 105mm projectile as explosive device placed under the seat cover of the motorcycle.

The recovered items, police added, were brought to the Crime Laboratory 12 in General Santos City for laboratory examination.

Police said there could have been a low order detonation that was why the projectile did not explode.

Reports said the attack was allegedly planned by hired bombers paid by political opponents of Gov. Dominguez’s party, but police disclosed that the reports were still to be verified.

“Tinitingnan natin ngayon kung ano ba ito, sino ‘yong responsible ditoat ano ‘yong kanilang motive. Hindi pa natin ma-establish dahilon-going pa naman ang investigation kung sino ba ang behind dito,”Gatera said. (SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE)
