GLAN, Sarangani (March 18, 2010) - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo visited Glan anew gracing the arrival of a 164-person delegation from Tahuna, North Sulawesi in Indonesia who were also warmly greeted by the local government unit (LGU) here as they reached the port of Glan Thursday, March 18, for a three-day exploratory visit.
The visit is an offshoot of the request of the Local Government of Tahuna to the Indonesian Consulate made early this year to further strengthen the bilateral initiatives between the Jose Abad Santos Glan Sarangani - Cooperation Triangle (JAGS-CT) and Tahuna Regency which was forged in Glan on November 28, 2006.
The areas of cooperation between JAGS-CT and Tahuna include education and training, socio cultural development, tourism promotion, fisheries, marine resources development, and trade and commerce.
Governor Migs Dominguez and Glan Mayor Enrique Yap both welcomed President Arroyo and the delegation team composed of LGU officials, private sector, academe, civil society group, and media practitioners from Tahuna.
"This is another history of our municipality. This is a start of formalized trading between Glan and Tahuna," Yap said."We look forward to more prosperous relationship," Gov. Dominguez said.
The highlights of the trade mission include a business matching activity, where 30 locals and 20 Indonesians were given opportunity to exchange experiences and share best practices;a business conference to be participated by 50 locals and 100 Indonesians; trade fair; cultural presentation; and bilateral meetings on Customs, Immigration, Quarantine and Security (CIQS), Education, and LGU cooperation by JAGS-CT officials and Indonesian counterparts.
Mayor Yap, during a press conference, told media that one of the agenda of the bilateral meetings would be the procedures and requirements regarding security in trading goods from Glan to Tahuna, and vice versa.
The trade fair, showcased at the JLC (James L. Chiongbian) Municipal Hall, also provided a venue for the Indonesian delegation to display their products.
Among the identified sample products are clove, nutmeg, coconut, pineapple, copra, furniture (miniature from bamboo), and fish products which they brought via LKM Sun Lia, an Indonesian vessel. The trade mission will be concluded on Saturday, March 20. (Sarangani Information Office)

Over 11,000 convene for Lakas-Kampi-CMD assembly
MANILA (November 19, 2009) - More than 11,000 local leaders under the administration party Lakas-Kampi-CMD signified their support to former Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro and former Optical Media Board (OMB) chair Edu Manzano as the official candidates of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD for president and vice president, respectively, during the party's National Convention held Thursday (November 19) at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.
The convention was divided into two sessions: the ratification of resolutions; and the nomination for the vice presidential and presidential candidates.In her address, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo stated that "Lakas-Kampi-CMD is the dominant party of our generation and has been the strongest political party in the last 17 years."
"Seventy-two percent of the elected leaders are part of our party. The huge number of leaders present here confirms that our party is the true party of the people," Arroyo said.
"We have convened today to nominate and proclaim our future leaders who possess the idealism and confidence to serve our country and our people."
Arroyo also mentioned the initiatives done by the government to fight poverty and added that the government has given focus on three critical areas towards development and these are economy, environment, and education.
She further urged the local leaders to work hard and to work together for the victory of the party because "all leaders of Lakas-Kampi are genuine leaders who can lead to better development of the nation."
Meanwhile, in his acceptance speech, Teodoro stressed that government structural reform is necessary to address the evolving challenges that the country is facing today.
He said "now is the time to gain our full economic liberties.""Hindi po ako natatakot sa malaking hamon na ito dahil hindi ko lang ito laban, laban po natin itong lahat," Teodoro said.
Teodoro also laid down his plans to address the four poverties of the country which he identified as poverty of the mind; poverty of the pocket; poverty of environment; and poverty of relationship.
He said it is a must to continue what is being done by the government today; important to train entrepreneurs for the future; protect the resources that the country has; and spur civic relationships that will continue to strengthen the kinship in our neighborhood.
"We shall continue to upscale infrastructure, continue to modernize highways on land and highways on seas should be safe for commerce," he said.
Vice presidential bet Manzano, on the other hand, also pledged and dedicated his entire being for the victory of the party.
"I want to lead our people to a new and vibrant tomorrow. Ang aking tugon sa hamon na ito ay 'Game Na' to make a meaningful contribution to our country," Manzano said.

MANILA (November 20, 2009) - Sarangani Governor Migs Dominguez was appointed Thursday (November 19) as the national president of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD through a resolution presented to party chairman President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo during the administration party's National Convention at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.
Four resolutions were ratified during the convention that include a resolution ratifying the by-laws of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD; a resolution ratifying the appointment for the new national chairman, president, and the members of the national advisory board; a resolution nominating former Optical Media Board Chair Edu Manzano as the official candidate of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD for vice president of the Republic of the Philippines in the 2010 national and local elections; and a resolution nominating former Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro as the party standard-bearer for the 2010 polls.
The appointment of Governor Dominguez was an honor not only for Sarangani Province, but for the whole Mindanao region as well.
Aside from the appointment of the governor, President Arroyo, along with Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, and Presidential Adviser for Political Affairs Gabriel Claudio, formally relinquished their posts and allowed Teodoro to steer the party.
Teodoro now is the new party chairman, succeeding President Arroyo, while Ermita and Claudio were succeeded by Governor Dominguez and Francis Manglapus respectively.
Dubbed with the theme, "Ang Bagong Mukha ng Lakas Kampi CMD," the convention only shows the display of a new generation of leaders that will lead the nation into future developments.

Sarangani turns over donation to PGMA for Ondoy victims
GLAN, Sarangani (October 11, 2009) – In response to an appeal from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, leaders of this province on Thursday joined hands to help the victims of typhoon Ondoy.
Addressing the President, who was in town for the celebration of the 95th anniversary of this municipality, Sarangani Governor Rene Miguel Dominguez said the calamity that took hundred of lives and destroyed properties worth billions in Metro Manila made officials to forget temporarily their political differences.
“Kasama ang mga munisipyo ng Sarangani sa pagbibigay ng tulong para sa mga nabaha sa Metro Manila, we are donating P1 million to help in the rehabilitation of the victims of typhoon Ondoy in Metro Manila,” Governor Dominguez told the President.
Dominguez handed the P1 million check to President Arroyo during the dinner for local media practitioners at his residence in Alabel, Sarangani.
Aside from the check, Dominguez also announced that tuna producers here have donated a container van full of fresh tuna products and other goods for the typhoon victims.
North Cotabato Governor Jesus Sacdalan, who was also present, announced that his province is also donating P500,000. “Salamat sa tabang (Thank you for your help) and contribution for the victims of floods in Metro Manila,” the President told the two governors. (OPS/SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE)

PGMA lauds peace and security in Glan
GLAN, Sarangani (October 11, 2009) - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo recognized the effort of the municipal government in maintaining peace, order and security in the municipality in her speech during the 95th Foundation Anniversary at Glan gymnasium, Thursday (October 8).
"Congratulations tungod kay ang kalinaw klaro sa lungsod sa Glan, wala'y NPA, MILF, MNLF," Arroyo said, who was the guest speaker.
Arroyo, aside from gracing the foundation anniversary of the municipality, also formally opened the P1 million Customs-Immigration-Quarantine-Security (CIQS) One-Stop Action Center (OSAC) building at the port of Glan, which "will be one of the most important ports in the Brunei-Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines East Asian Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).”
"Dili lamang gwapo ang kalinaw sa Glan, but we have also a very important milestone, ang One-Stop Action Center sa port. Pakusgan niini ang komersiyo sa BIMP-EAGA," Arroyo said.
During the foundation rites, Arroyo also led the awarding of prizes for the winners of the 10th Lubi-lubi Festival, celebrated in time of the 15-day long 95th Foundation Anniversary.
Meanwhile, to accelerate the hunger mitigation program of the government, Arroyo also turned-over open-pollinated variety of corn seeds for Sarangani farmers as well as awarded the Philippine Coconut Authority certificates for bags of salt fertilizers for coconut farmers in Glan.The 95th Foundation Anniversary opened on September 25.
With a theme "Kinaiyahan... Kinabuhi sa Tanan, Angayan Ampingan (Nature... Life for All, Must be Protected", Mayor Enrique Yap Jr. earlier stressed responsible stewardship in the environment. He noted that conservation, protection, and preservation must be given focus to avert calamities.
One of the highlights of the municipality's foundation anniversary is the celebration of the Tribal Day held at Plaza Rizal in Glan on October 6.Mayor Yap was installed by Datu Tanao Tao, the municipal tribal chieftain, to possess the responsibility to protect the tribe in the municipality.
Given the name Datu Fulong Munong Banwe, Yap pledged to be the "Protector of the Land" and must constitute solidarity in the area.
"Dako akong kalipay nga nahimo kong Datu ug angay lamang gayud nga kini akong ipasigarbo ug tagaan og importansiya tungod atong nasayran nga usa sa pinakaunang tawo sa Mindanao ang atong mga kaigsuonang Blaan ug Muslim," Yap asserted.

GLAN, Sarangani (October 9, 2009) - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo revisits Glan Thursday, October 8, for its 95th foundation rites and Lubi-lubi Festival. The president opened the building of Customs Immigration Quarantine and Security (CIQS) One Stop Action Center (OSAC). The action center now houses the satellite offices of the Bureau of Customs (BOC), Bureau of Immigration and Deportation (BID), Department of Health (DOH), Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), and the Philippine Coast Guard. Exporters and importers from the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) will now have an easier time conducting business in Sarangani province. The CIQS-OSAC in Glan is also expected to boost direct shipping services between the Jose Abad Santos-Glan-Sarangani Cooperation Triangle (JAGS-CT) and Indonesia's North Sulawesi province.
