Sarangani schools get 1.2-M from Kraft Foods

MALAPATAN, Sarangani (March 11, 2007) – Buildings, school and supplies, vegetable seeds, and teachers' training worth P1.2 million were formally received Friday by two elementary schools from Kraft Foods Phils.

Total grant from the firm, which is implementing its Healthy and Active Lifestyle Enhancement (HALE) Project in Mindanao, was P968,000. Local counterpart was P P253,000.

Kraft Foods Phils, a member of the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), set up last year its HALE project at Lun Padidu and Diamalod elementary schools.

HALE is funded through the Kraft Cares Program.

"By buying our home products, you are giving Kraft the opportunity to serve the consumers, the public, and the community through its health and wellness program," said Raymund Soberano, communications manager of Kraft.

Soberano and other Kraft Foods officials together with PBSP turned over two Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan(EPP) school buildings.

The Parents, Teachers and Community Association designed the EPP buildings to suit the pupils' needs.

"Kung wala tayong kalusugan, hindi tayo makapag-aral ng mabuti," Soberano said.

The schools harvested vegetables from school gardens for a cooking competition in January, produced from Kraft's seeds distribution last year.

"Nandito kami para siguruhin ang ambisyon nyo," Governor Migs Dominguez told the pupils. "Ang importante hindi tayo mawawalan ng sipag at pag-asa."

PBSP is set to implement remedial reading program that will mobilize teachers to conduct reading sessions for slow and non-readers plus additional audio-visual facility and reading materials. (SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE/RGP)
