GLAN, Sarangani (October 11, 2009) – In response to an appeal from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, leaders of this province on Thursday joined hands to help the victims of typhoon Ondoy.
Addressing the President, who was in town for the celebration of the 95th anniversary of this municipality, Sarangani Governor Rene Miguel Dominguez said the calamity that took hundred of lives and destroyed properties worth billions in Metro Manila made officials to forget temporarily their political differences.
“Kasama ang mga munisipyo ng Sarangani sa pagbibigay ng tulong para sa mga nabaha sa Metro Manila, we are donating P1 million to help in the rehabilitation of the victims of typhoon Ondoy in Metro Manila,” Governor Dominguez told the President.
Dominguez handed the P1 million check to President Arroyo during the dinner for local media practitioners at his residence in Alabel, Sarangani.
Aside from the check, Dominguez also announced that tuna producers here have donated a container van full of fresh tuna products and other goods for the typhoon victims.
North Cotabato Governor Jesus Sacdalan, who was also present, announced that his province is also donating P500,000. “Salamat sa tabang (Thank you for your help) and contribution for the victims of floods in Metro Manila,” the President told the two governors. (OPS/SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE)
