Nationwide mangrove planting

MAASIM, Sarangani (September 16, 2007) - Sarangani Vice Governor Steve Solon (left) chats with a resident of Tinoto, Maasim after planting a mangrove seedling Saturday, September 15, during the 22nd International Coastal Clean-Up and nationwide launching of Green Philippine's Program for Mangrove Planting. The activity was spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and participated in by different civic and school organizations, the local governments of Maasim and Sarangani Province. Mangroves protect the coast from erosion, surge storms, and tsunamis. Mangroves support unique ecosystems and are grown in coastal regions for the benefits they provide to coastal fisheries and other uses. (Photo by SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE/RIO)
