Sarangani disaster action teams help flood victims
MALAPATAN, Sarangani (August 1, 2009) – Disaster action centers in towns hit by flashfloods went on round-the-clock rescue and relief operation as Governor Migs Dominguez on Friday (July 31) inspected affected villages.
In evacuation centers, the governor directed government workers to provide hot meals, beddings and other basic needs.
The flashfloods were triggered by heavy downpour early Friday. Government relief teams rushed food packs, used clothing and beddings to evacuation centers.
The flooding left four dead and one missing in Malapatan town while one died in Kiamba.
The Malapatan fatalities were identified as Randy Calamangan, Lynlyn Calamangan, Jefferey Calamangan and another member of the family who was not named. Their ages ranged from 3 to 18 years old. The Kiamba fatality was identified as Bernardo Gallo.
A total of 1,772 families were affected in 18 barangays across the province: 85 families in Malapatan, 48 in Maasim, 1,539 in Kiamba, and 100 in Maitum. The flooding left 31 houses damaged in Malapatan. (SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE)
