Disaster council meeting
ALABEL, Sarangani (June 23, 2008) – Vice Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon (center) presides over an emergency meeting Sunday (June 22) of the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) where he directed local disaster councils to ensure that evacuees don't go hungry in evacuation centers. The PDCC, convened by Solon as acting governor, passed a resolution requesting the Sangguniang Bayan to declare Sarangani province under a state of calamity. The government's response comes in the aftermath of typhoon Frank's heavy downpour that caused flashfloods in the towns of Alabel, Maitum, Kiamba and Maasim. The total number of affected families reached 1,775 with 6,917 dependents and total damage to property at P34 million. Additional relief goods needed are around 250 sacks of rice, 30 boxes of canned goods, kitchen utensils, medicines and milk. (Photo by Jun Ramos/SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE)
