GENERAL SANTOS CITY (June 11, 2008) – Undefeated Tanzanian boxer Juma Seleman Fundi planed in Wednesday (June 11) for the WBO Oriental flyweight bout with Filipino Richie Mepranum at Maasim municipal gymnasium on June 14.
Dubbed "War in Sarangani", Fundi and Mepranum will go up the ring for a 12-round, 112-pounders' fight.
At the airport, Games and Amusement Board official Vicente Cabalog okayed Fundi's health clearance for the fight.
The two 21-year old fighters' bout is main event of the first world boxing championship fight in Sarangani under the auspices of Ireneo Miguel Lopez Promotion chaired by Maasim Mayor Jojo Lopez.
"He is here to win the fight," Fundi's manager Emmanuel Mlundwa said upon arrival at General Santos City international airport.
"He is very well-trained and he will win the fight by a knock out," he added.
But Mepranum, the Philippines No. 1 ranked flyweight, has told his handlers: "I will beat him."
Fundi has won seven fights with four knock outs while Mepranum has a record of 16-1-1 with seven knock outs. (Russtum G. Pelima/SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE)
