MALAPATAN, Sarangani (October 21, 2006) – Co-funding by national agencies and the local government has repaired 14 km. of vital farm-to-market (FMR) roads here, with additional 3.5 km. started in barangay Sapu Masla Friday.
The roads lead to production areas for rice and corn.
Malapatan has received “more than P20 million worth of projects through outsourcing of funds dahil sa credibility na inyong ipinapakita,” Gov. Migs Dominguez told local officials and residents Friday at the groundbreaking rites of the P6.27-million Malaygang FMR in barangay Sapu Masla.
For the new project, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) granted P4.413 million, the local government shared P1.381 million and P476,824 came from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).
“That is why the funding agencies are here dahil ang implementation ninyo ay matino,” the governor said. “Hindi na kayo maghahanap, sila na ang pupunta sa inyo para tulungan kayo.”
From 2002 to this year, Malapatan had three FMR projects fully completed through co-funding by ADB, DAR and the local government.
FMR projects around this barangay include the rehabilitation of the 1.5-km. Calagumet-Calocob road with box culvert for P2.54 million, 4.42-km. Patag-Layac road (P6.5 million), and 8.2-km. Calagumet-Kiayad road (P9 million).
“Remember two things. Peace and development,” Dominguez said.
“Kung walay kalinaw, walay development. Ang mga tao nagkahiusa, ang mga bata nag eskwela ug mao ni ang mahimong foundation nga mupadagan sa atong munisipyo for the next generation,” he added.
Mayor Alfonso Singcoy said local officials were happy with DAR and ADB “for giving us these projects. The projects were very well implemented.”
Barangay Captain Jimen Sambaga said the repaired roads have been giving farmers more access to their market.
