Foot bridge from USAID

MALAPATAN, Sarangani (September 21, 2007) – Paul Jones (in blue polo shirt), United States Assistance for International Development (USAID) Deputy Chief of Mission, leads the inauguration Friday, September 21, of the P1.4 million, 42-meter suspension footbridge in barangay Libi that will benefit about 7,000 residents. The footbridge is one of the 49 barangay infra projects built by USAID's Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) in Sarangani. Joining Jones are (from left) GEM economic chief Christian Hougen, economic advisor Robert Barnes, barangay captain Mateo Maguan, Mayor Aida Singcoy, and Vice Governor Steve Solon. The new footbridge is designed to increase the economic competitiveness of underdeveloped communities, create employment opportunities, and boost rural productivity levels. Until recently, farmers and traders of barangay Libi had difficulty transporting their agricultural products across a 36-meter wide river. (Photo by SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE/CAS)
